The £3 million project is one of the first phases of E.ON’s Humber Gateway offshore wind farm development. The wider scheme will see E.ON installing 73 wind turbines, 8km off the East Yorkshire Coast. The wind farm will generate 219 MW of electricity, which is enough to power 170,000 homes.
The facility has been built on what was derelict land on North Quay Road in Grimsby, which is within the renewable enterprise zone. The development comprises of 1,200m2 operation and maintenance building and 400 m2 storage building. Upon completion the new Operations and Maintenance Facility will accommodate 50 maintenance staff.
Safecontrol’s scope of works included Category 5e structured cabling system, complete with a number of network cabinets and fibre optic link cables. The building was flood wired to allow for multiple Category 5e network outlets at each desk/location. Over 270 outlets were installed throughout the development. Outlets were wired back to network cabinets located with the Comms Room.
